About LEDs

LED - Light Emitting Diode
The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language defines L.E.D. as: ”A semiconductor diode that converts applied voltage to light and is used in digital displays.”
Other sources define it as a “light-emitting diode,” meaning a diode that emits light when current passes through it. Regardless of technical definitions, LED Technology is phenomenal and is frequently found in your daily routine. In traffic signals, outdoor electronic message displays, indoor programmable displays, fixed image displays, lighting tubes, vehicle backup lights and in countless other applications, LEDs are rapidly replacing neon, incandescent and fluorescent light sources.
LED Life Range:
The LED life range can extend up to 100,000 hours, for this reason LEDs are idea for hard to reach fixtures such as sings. Sometime the weather and heat factors may have a different affect on the power supply. LEDs are highly durable. They do not contain a filament that could be shocked or damaged.
Range of Colors
LEDs can be found in a range of colors. Red Blue and green LEDs can combine to create a white light, as well as a white led itself. Dramatic color effects can be made by combining just those 4 LEDs. Our displays range from just a one color display to a full color LED Programmable Display. Dramatic and amazing results can occur from these combinations, over 16 million color combinations that is! Our line of programmable LED Signs all come with programming software to make use of these great possibilities.
Going Green
LEDs are very environmentally friendly. They produce no UV radiation and very little heat. LEDs are low energy, so there is very little cost to run your LED device. No heat from LEDs also makes them ideal for lighting sensitive objects such as artwork. Please view our line of LED Candles for more info.
Other Benefits
The other benefits of LEDs include:
- Lights instantly
- Can be easily dimmed
- Silent operation
- Clean energy
- Super bright (if you choose)
- Low-voltage power supply (increased safety)
